Palace's Shoals Album
Project Type
Photography, Graphic Design
Date
September 2024
The challenge for this project was to reimagine Palace's Shoals album through a complete redesign. My task was to create a new vinyl record cover (front and back), vinyl labels for both sides (A and B), and an accompanying poster. In approaching the design, I drew inspiration from the music itself, carefully considering how the band intended to express their vision while writing the album. My goal was to visually translate the emotions and themes behind Shoals into a cohesive and meaningful design.
Palace created this album during the height of the COVID pandemic, a time when isolation forced many to confront their deepest fears and anxieties. With fewer distractions, people had no choice but to face what they had been avoiding. The band drew inspiration from the ocean, seeing a parallel between its vast, unpredictable nature and the human mind—both full of dangers, yet also containing immense beauty. Through this challenge, I sought to convey that story and bring its emotional depth to life.
